Changes to the visa regulations of the Czech Republic, effective from January 1, 2024.

According to the approved regulations, the changes pertain to the amounts for the minimum subsistence level and living expense standards. These changes have significant implications for those planning to extend their residence permit in the Czech Republic.

  1. According to § 2 of Act No. 110/2006 Coll., on the Minimum Living and Existential Needs of an Individual:
The minimum subsistence amounts (in CZK, per month) will be:

  • For an individual living alone — 4,860 CZK.

  • For the first adult family member — 4,470 CZK.

  • For the second and each subsequent adult family member — 4,040 CZK.

  • For a dependent child aged:

    • Under 6 years — 2,480 CZK.

    • From 6 to 15 years — 3,050 CZK.

    • From 15 to 26 years — 3,490 CZK.

  1. According to Act No. 450/2022 Coll.:
    Living expense standards in Prague:

  • For 1 person — 18,129 CZK.

  • For 2 people — 18,129 CZK.

  • For 3 people — 20,812 CZK.

  • For 4 or more people — 24,995 CZK.

These changes mean that those planning to extend their residence permit after January 1, 2024, will need to account for the increased income amounts required for a successful visa extension.

For example, a single adult living in a rented apartment in Prague will need to have an income of 4,860 CZK + 18,129 CZK = 22,989 CZK (net) to successfully extend their residence permit.

Stay tuned for our updates to keep informed about the latest changes and prepare for extending your visa status in accordance with the new requirements of the Czech Republic.
